Extracted values, and where each came from

These values cannot be traced to a paper from this page. This object was RECOVERED from the published page itself rather than assembled from source documents. Each value below traces to the page it came from, but no verbatim source sentence and no resolvable link to a paper was recoverable, and the intervals are computed from a stored estimate and variance rather than read from anything a source printed. Treat every row as unverified against its source until it is checked against the trial report.

One row per extracted value. Every row carries the value, the verbatim sentence it was read from, a resolvable link to the source, and whether the number was read or derived. Where any of those is absent the row says so rather than omitting the value.

The extractor recovered a pooled result from this page, so the page pooled these trials. Whether they should have been pooled is not established by conversion - several pages in this corpus pooled harm with efficacy, or distinct agents, and their estimates were withdrawn for that reason.

Neither is JUPITER's. JUPITER counts any stroke and any myocardial infarction where both HOPE-3 composites count non-fatal only; JUPITER counts hospitalisation for unstable angina and neither HOPE-3 composite does; HOPE-3's second adds resuscitated cardiac arrest and heart failure, which JUPITER's does not. Does the answer depend on the pooling method?

With two or three studies the Cochrane Handbook (10.10.4.4–10.10.4.5) asks for a sensitivity analysis comparing interval methods rather than a choice between them. Both are given here; the published interval is the first row.

Table 8. Does the answer depend on the pooling method?
IntervalMethodSummary (95% CI)
as publishedREML0.6561 (0.484 to 0.8894)

The published point is 0.6561 and the house-rule point is 0.6561. The number a reader remembers does not move; what differs is the precision claim. That is why nothing downstream catches this -- every memorable quantity survives.

A floor of 1 is applied to the variance-inflation factor so the adjustment can never narrow an interval below the unadjusted one. That guard is the recognised modification for exactly this instability, and its existence is evidence the small-k behaviour is a known problem with known handling rather than a novel judgement.

Projected from the canonical object, so it carries the same k, the same pooled estimate and the same interval as the paper and cannot drift from them. The interval is drawn to scale against the no-difference line, which it EXCLUDES: 0.484 to 0.889, with no difference at 1.

Risk of bias

Risk-of-bias traffic light — not computable No per-domain RoB-2 assessment is stored in this object.

⬇ SVG (vector) 1 KB

Only the vector format is offered for this figure, by choice: it is line art — discrete marks, glyphs and labels — which SVG reproduces exactly at any size, so a raster would add weight without adding fidelity. The build was able to rasterise; it was asked not to.

Not drawn, because there is nothing to draw it from.

GOSH

GOSH plot — not drawn at this k Computable but uninformative at k = 2: the whole subset space is 3 points, and its shape is read for clustering that needs an order of magnitude more studies.

Deliberately not drawn. Every subset meta-analysis of 2 trials is 3 points; a cloud that small cannot show the multimodality GOSH exists to reveal, and a reader would take the picture as evidence of its absence.

TSA boundaries depend entirely on a target information size that must be pre-specified. This review's protocol registers none, so any boundary drawn here would be a parameter chosen after seeing the data -- which is the practice TSA exists to protect against.

The protocol pre-specifies no moderator, and at k = 2 a meta-regression would be fitted on 2 points. Not drawn rather than drawn with a caveat: a bubble plot invites reading a slope, and there is no slope here that any reader should read.

  1. No GRADE assessment or reconciliation record is held in this object, so the certainty of this evidence has not been rated. This is recorded as a declared departure under Cochrane Handbook §III.3.4.1: the review reports a pooled estimate for which no certainty assessment was made. Rating it here would require two assessors and an adjudicator, and a rating produced by neither is not a GRADE assessment whatever letter it carries.
  2. Read this beside `whether the estimand was established`. That flag records that every contributing trial measures the same quantity. It records nothing about what that quantity was measured against -- whether the comparators are of one kind, whether each comparison was randomised, whether it was concurrent. The two questions were never separated. Named as P48 in PAGE-STANDARD.md v1.21.0 and swept by scripts/audit_mixed_contrast_pools.py.

Why it is referred rather than withdrawn hereWithdrawing a published estimate is a published-number decision and this pass was scoped to establish the estimand, not to take that decision. The finding is complete and stated; the decision is Mahmood's.
Scopevenous thromboembolism -- deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism -- one outcome harmonised across both trials
ScopeNot established -- the abstract was read, the outcome list was not
The finding of this comparisonThe only published synthesis of these two trials avoided the estimand problem this pool has. Joseph et al. pooled individual participant data on one outcome defined identically in both trials. This object pools each trial's own registered primary, and those differ -- which this object's question already states. The comparison therefore does not adjudicate our number; it shows that the literature, given the same two trials, chose a different and more defensible target. Whether to re-pool on a harmonised outcome is a content decision and is not made here.
Population label WITHDRAWNThis object described its population as 'adults with stroke'. That is wrong and it is WITHDRAWN. Both contributing trials are primary prevention in people without established cardiovascular disease. Read from ClinicalTrials.gov API v2 on 2026-08-21: NCT00239681 is JUPITER, registered under the single condition 'Elevated high-sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (hsCRP)'; NCT00468923 is HOPE-3, an intermediate-risk primary-prevention trial. And the origin of the error is identifiable: hope-3's registry `conditions` array reads Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke because stroke is an outcome it counts, not because its participants had one. A conditions field lists what a trial is about, which is not the same as what its participants have, and reading it as a population label turns an endpoint into a diagnosis. The correct description is: adults without established cardiovascular disease, at elevated risk. No estimate changes.

Title

Rosuvastatin in adults without established cardiovascular disease1

This object described its population as 'adults with stroke'. No estimate changes.2

Results

The pooled odds ratio for time to Major Cardiac Event (Cardiovascular Death, Stroke, Myocardial Infarction, Hospitalization Due to Unstable Angina was 0.656 (0.484 to 0.889) across 2 trials.1

This pool is referred, not withdrawn. The pooled odds ratio 0.6561 (0.484 to 0.8894) averages jupiter's five-component composite with one of HOPE-3's two co-primaries, and the object cannot say which. This is the estimand-mixing shape that caused sglt2-hf's k=4 pool to be withdrawn.2

The trials' results were poorly consistent with one another: I-squared, the share of the variation between them that is more than chance alone would produce, was 80.2%; the estimated variance of the true effects between trials (tau-squared) was 0.0387, the heterogeneity test statistic Q was 5.04, on degrees of freedom 1.3

The grounds for pooling are recorded as: The extractor recovered a pooled result from this page, so the page pooled these trials. Whether they should have been pooled is not established by conversion - several pages in this corpus pooled harm with efficacy, or distinct agents, and their estimates were withdrawn for that reason. Where a later pool on this page rests on the same grounds, they are not restated.4

The full model output for every pooled outcome -- the call, the estimator, the heterogeneity statistics and the back-transformed interval -- is stored verbatim on this review object at `results.by_outcome.<outcome>.r_output.verbatim`. It is not reproduced as an Extended data section in this article; an earlier version of this sentence said it was, and no such section exists.5

Limitations

What this review does not give a clinician: the number of events in each arm, any absolute effect or number needed to treat and any measure of harm. A relative effect cannot be turned into the benefit or the risk facing one patient without them, so this review can support a judgement about what these trials found and not a judgement about what to do.1

Reporting guidelines

This review reports against PRISMA 2020. A screening record is held on this object and the flow it supports is shown in the Methods. The completed PRISMA checklist and FLOW diagram are not held here: the venue requires them deposited in an approved repository with a DOI cited in the Data Availability Statement, and minting that DOI is an author action rather than a build step.1

Note on registration

No PROSPERO registration or protocol record is held on this object. That is not the same as knowing this review was not registered, and neither claim is made. It is recorded here as an absence so that a reader does not have to infer it from silence.1

Figure 2 not drawn. k = 2. A funnel plot and its asymmetry tests have almost no power below about ten trials (Cochrane Handbook 13.3.5.4), so a funnel drawn here would invite a reading of asymmetry this evidence cannot support. It is declined rather than drawn, and this slot says so where the plot would have been.

Not reported in this record

The items below were not written because the record does not hold what they would be composed from. They are named here so that an absence is not mistaken for an omission.

Items not reported, and why
Article areaItem not reportedReason
AbstractThe Background sentence of the abstractBackground is argument -- why this question matters -- and no arrangement of the quantities this object holds yields it. It is emitted only from an authored field and there is no composition path for it here
AbstractThe Conclusions sentence of the abstractA conclusion is argument -- what a reader should now believe -- and it is emitted only from an authored field. Composing one from the estimate would be this renderer telling the reader what to conclude, which no field supports
Methods — searchA database search for primary trials, which was not carried out for this review; the included trials were identified from named registrationsNo further reason is recorded.
Methods — how many studies at each stageThe k cascadeNo further reason is recorded.
Methods — outcomes sought at every registered rankThe statement that outcomes were sought below the primaryNo further reason is recorded.
Methods — synthesisThe claim that records were screened in duplicate by two independent reviewersNo further reason is recorded.
Methods — synthesisThe claim that risk of bias was assessed with a named toolNo further reason is recorded.
Methods — synthesisThe claim that certainty of evidence was gradedNo further reason is recorded.
Methods — synthesisThe claim that the review methods were prespecified before data collectionNo further reason is recorded.
Risk of bias in the included resultsThe risk-of-bias assessmentNo further reason is recorded.
Risk of bias in the included resultsThe risk-of-bias distributionNo further reason is recorded.
Certainty of the evidenceCertainty of the evidence, by outcome, with every rating stepNo further reason is recorded.
Certainty of the evidenceThe certainty assessmentNo GRADE record is held, so the certainty column elsewhere on this page is an em dash rather than a guess
Data availabilityThe data availability statementNo further reason is recorded.
Author contributionsThe author-contributions statementWho did what is a fact about people, and this object records none
Competing interestsThe competing-interests declarationF1000Research requires this section on every article, and requires explicit text where there is nothing to declare. It is a statement about the author and not about the evidence: no field of this object implies it and none is invented here
Grant informationThe grant informationThe venue requires each funder's name, the grant number where applicable, and the person the grant was assigned . None of that is derivable from a synthesis
Funding and conflicts of interestThe funding and conflict-of-interest statement -- a content gapA submission requires it and this object does not carry it; it is not inferable from anything held here
Note on registrationThe registration noteNo further reason is recorded.
RegistrationA registration statement: no prospective registration is recorded for this review, and whether one exists elsewhere has not been establishedNo further reason is recorded.
Submission conformanceThe submission conformance statementNo further reason is recorded.

Page standard

UNSTAMPED — unknown-version. This page carries no build_stamp, so the standard it was built to cannot be established. That is a statement about the record, not a claim that the page is below standard.

Every number on this page is projected from a single canonical object, and each measured cell names the source analysis it was read from. That is what is machine-checked. It does not establish that the underlying sources are right, only that this page faithfully reports them.
